"THE public toilets at St Helana's Park and the Demense are to close next year, members of Dundalk Town Council learned at the annual budget meeting.

Town Clerk Mr Frank Pentony said that the they were being closed for health and security reasons as well as cost factors. He revealed that the council had been asked by the gardai to close the one at the Demense.

' They are not being used as automated public conveniences as we cannot take a chance due to the times that are in it.'

He said that the gardai had specifically requested that the one at the Demense be closed.

He assured councillors that the public toilet at Roden Place would remain open as it was the only one they hadn't received complaints about."
